Health begins at the root cause.
blu was founded on a quiet observation: most skin and hair problems aren't really about skin or hair — they're about what touches them every single day. We build intelligent, eco-engineered solutions that fix the input, not the symptom.

It started with a question
nobody was asking.
In 2006, our CEO Ahmed Elgibaly's wife was losing her hair. She'd tried everything — supplements, creams, salon treatments, prescription routines. Nothing worked. Not for long, anyway.
The pattern Ahmed kept noticing was that every product on the shelf was reaching for the after. After the breakage. After the irritation. After the damage. Almost nothing addressed what was happening before — the daily inputs that quietly made the problem worse.
Together with his co-founder Lars Mourey, Ahmed spent the next three years in conversation with dermatologists, water engineers, and material scientists. The answer kept landing in the same place: the water touching her scalp every morning was carrying chlorine, sediment, heavy metal traces, and biofilm — and no topical product on Earth was going to outrun that.
In 2009, after three years of research and a working prototype, they founded blu — with one rule: address the cause, not the symptom. That's still the rule today.
Three principles. Every decision.
We've held the same three rules since 2009. They're the reason we built a shower filter instead of a cosmetic — and the reason we still don't sell anything that doesn't earn its place against them.
Since 2006.
One question, still being answered.
Ahmed Elgibaly and Lars Mourey are motivated by Ahmed's wife's struggle with hair loss. They decide to tackle hair loss and skin issues from the root cause — because who wants to deal with the symptom forever? It's time to make a difference in health and wellness.
The duo begins exploring eco-engineered solutions in earnest — testing media, materials and flow. Two years of R&D lay the groundwork for the first blu Ionic Shower Filter prototype.
Refinement lands on the architecture still used in every blu product today: our patented Nano Molecular Cluster (NMC) medium paired with a perforated stainless steel plate and an inlet flow regulator. The same year, blu is officially founded — with one rule: address the root cause of hair and skin issues, not the symptom.
Partnerships with luxury hotels begin, bringing eco-friendly showers to guests worldwide — a major milestone in the hospitality sector and an early proof that the engineering scales beyond a single home.
The launch of an online shop and Amazon storefront expands customer access to blu's sustainable products, reaching a global audience for the first time outside the hospitality channel.
30% YoY growth solidifies blu's position as a leading water-saving solution provider, offering fast ROI for hospitality clients and validating the household economics for retail customers.
Despite COVID-19, the company sustains growth — a quiet vote of confidence in the durability of eco-friendly products that pay for themselves in water and energy savings.
blu becomes the #1 best-seller on Amazon UAE in eight categories for water-saving shower systems — reaching millions of customers and establishing strong brand recognition across the region.
blu expands to Amazon UK and the USA, bringing sustainable water technology to new markets. Retail growth continues, with plans to grow from 7 to 10 stores by next year.
Better for your skin.
Measurably better for the planet.
From day one, eco-engineering was non-negotiable. Every commitment here is something we can measure and someone independent can verify.
Start where the damage starts.
At the showerhead.
Research that began in 2006, one rule, one elegant little filter. Your skin and hair will know within a week.
